Environmental sustainability was not a major issue in the recent United Kingdom general election and was not reflected very strongly in the party manifestos. However, that does not mean the issue can be ignored. The issues that any government must address — from housing, transport and public services to food, water and energy security — are all affected by our continuing growth in population and consumption.
These issues have real consequences, including an increasing cost of living, a decreasing quality of life and continued pressure on natural amenities and wildlife habitat.
We shall continue to urge that these issues take their place alongside other political concerns.
