UN Security Council supports SRHR

The U.N. Security Council unanimously passed on 18 October Resolution 2122 which recognizes the need to “Ensure that humanitarian aid and funding includes provisions for the full range of medical, legal, psychosocial and livelihood services to women affected by armed conflict and post-conflict situations” and the need for, “access to the full range of sexual and reproductive health services, including regarding pregnancies resulting from rape, without discrimination.”

Resolution 2122 builds upon the Resolution 2106 that aims to ensure survivors of sexual violence receive comprehensive reproductive health services without discrimination.

In advance of the vote the findings of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon report on women and peace and security – which highlights the importance of access to sexual and reproductive health services as part of humanitarian responses and conflict resolution- were presented to the Security Council.
