We all love our children and hope for a healthy and happy life for them, but with increasing population and consumption, the cost of living is rising and the quality of life is falling. Increased pressure on space, services, resources and the environment mean that we are losing much of what makes Earth a beautiful place.
Our population has grown by about four billion during the last 60 years, resulting in our current population of more than seven billion. The United Nations is projecting growth of another four billion people by the end of the century.
Simon Ross, chief executive of Population Matters, commented, “Valentine’s Day is a time for love but worldwide around four in 10 pregnancies are unintended. The number of children you have has the biggest impact on the planet of anything you do, so be careful out there!”
