Use Earth Hour to think about population

Earth Hour is from 8.30 to 9.30 pm local time on Saturday 29th March. It is a time to think about the Earth and the environment and, of course, to turn the lights off.

Of course, there are many fun things you can do with the lights off. But accidents can happen. That’s why it might be a good time to think about population. Turning the lights off for an hour reduces energy use and carbon emissions by only a small amount and for a short while. But if we all chose to have smaller families, that would reduce the use of resources of all kinds for ever. That would leave more for the poor, for other species and for other generations.

Isn’t that a bright idea!
