Contemporary artist Gavin Turk has entitled his plannned solo exhibition at Bowes Museum in County Durham ‘Seven Billion Two Hundred and One Million Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand and Two Hundred and Thirty-Eight’, the world population size.
He would like to mount an external neon display saying just this on the front of the building. It will be “visible for miles around”, including apparently the A66 trunk road, throughout the duration of the exhibition, 25 January – 21 April 2014.
To pay for the manufacturing and installation of the piece, they need to raise just over another £2,000 to reach their £6,000 target by 1pm on Monday 13th January. Otherwise the installation of the display will not go ahead. Funders receive various Turk related items depending on how much they give.
If you would like to contribute to the cost, you can do so until this Monday at 1pm.
